BMI is Body Mass Index. It can be calculated by dividing the body mass over the square of the body height. Usually expressed in kg and meter square.

If you weigh 80kg and your height is 1.5m, your BMI would be 80÷1.5(squared) 35.5.

According to Wikipedia “The BMI is a convenient rule of thumb used to broadly categorize a person as underweight, normal weight, overweight, or obese based on tissue mass (muscle, fat, and bone) and height. Commonly accepted BMI ranges are underweight (under 18.5 kg/m2), normal weight (18.5 to 25), overweight (25 to 30), and obese (over 30).[1]

So an individual with a BMI of 35.5 above is obese.

Now, at the beginning of this year, before I lost some weight, I weighed 89kg and my height is 1.58m. So my BMI was 28.4. My goal is to bring it to below or at 25 which is the ideal.

Having lost 3kg, my BMI is now 27.5. It does not look like a significant loss but this is a quantum lift for me. Because I know how I struggle to lose 1kg usually which I easily put back on.

You may have bought products from people telling you that you will lose 20kg weight in 14days or 21days.

That’s a lie. A very big lie.

Nobody loses weight in that short period.

Weight loss takes much more time than you think.

It takes hours and months of consistency

All my life, I have battled with fat. It’s been a life long battle, and the weight keeps going up and down like a swinging pendulum.

But this year, I made up my mind it’s time to cut down this weight significantly and obtain my correct BMI once and for all.

I fasted for seven(7) days!

It looks like an obvious solution to losing weight but then many people take it for granted.

It looks like a simple solution but it’s hard in it’s actual sense. I came to this conclusion because fasting became a very difficult thing to do for me after marriage.

Even holding on until 12 noon was a war. I couldn’t beer it, my body shakes literarily when I go beyond this time. I did some things which enabled me to hold on and fast the whole day. I did the following

  1. Used two weeks in December to plan for 2021
  2. Studied the personal growth growth and implemented what I learnt
  3. Made a firm decision to follow through no matter the cost
  4. Developed a vision board and placed my weight loss goals on them
  5. Prayed and asked God for grace to push through

Having lost 3kg for one consistent week, I know it’s the start of something great. As things are going, looks like I will crush my weight loss goals this year.
