“If you are not willing to risk the usual, you will have to settle for the ordinary.” Jim Rohn
Building a successful career can be daunting and time consuming. You often get home late, work odd hours to get dinner ready, make out time for laundry and help the kids with their homework
Congratulations if you have a stable electricity. Not in my country! Generators are the main source of power. My challenge is not with the power it generates but the noise that comes along with it. This noise is not just from ours but from neighbours also.
Amidst all this, I should be exonerated if I don’t join the band wagon of side hustlers. After all, I have genuinely excusable reasons not to think of a second source of income
But then, bills don’t give a damn about my excuses. My debts don’t get paid off because I have a little one.
You see, everyone got an excuse why they shouldn’t do what they should do to bring about necessary change they crave-
- Pay off mortgage
- Have control of their time
- Take extra courses
- Take family on vacation
- Live life on their own terms.
But, successful people still dare to dream and work extra hours to see their dreams come true despite these challenges.
It doesn’t take a lot of time to build a side gig. It’s like getting in shape. You don’t go to the gym for eight hours a day a couple of times and expect to see results. Instead, you commit 30 minutes a day, five days a week, for a few months.”
~Gerald Zingraf, product manager with 3 side hustles
Recent happenings have taught that we all need a side hustle no matter how tight our schedules are. It’s no longer an option as it were, it’s increasingly becoming mandatory to earn extra money to survive in this day and age…
Last week, the road to my workplace was hijacked by hoodlums. I couldn’t get to my house after finishing a night shift… I returned back to the office to scamper for safety until mid afternoon. Commute to and from work is now becoming a threat to life.
The covid-19 pandemic has also opened our eyes to the realities of the new world. Several countries locked down for several months, many people throne out of jobs.
Wars and rumours of wars. Our government can barely protect us. Bills have skyrocketed. The standard of living is now very high. A very steep inflation has set in.
All these and many more reasons are why it’s no longer luxury to have a side hustle. It’s now part of the demand to survive in the 21st Century.
On this note, it is important to pull off a side hustle while you’re working on your 8am to 6pm or 9am to 5pm job as the case may be.
If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always gotten.
